A ceremony marking the launch of new energy projects and the start of construction on new facilities was held during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Renewables.az citing the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan, reports that two wind power plants with a combined capacity of 300 MW and a 100 MW energy storage system were commissioned in the Karao‘zak district as part of the ceremony.
In addition, the construction of a major 1.5 GW wind power plant in the Kungrad district and its connection to the unified power grid have entered an active phase.
The $2.6 billion project is being implemented jointly with Saudi Arabian company Acwa. The project includes the construction of 1,500 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines and three 500 kV substations, as well as the modernization of two additional substations.
