For twenty-one years, energy specialists in Azerbaijan have proudly celebrated their professional holiday — Power Engineers' Day.
This significant day is linked to a historic milestone in the country’s energy sector: on October 20, 1981, the first power unit of the “Azerbaijan” Thermal Power Plant was commissioned under the initiative and direct leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, marking the beginning of a new stage in the development of Azerbaijan’s power industry.
By the Presidential Decree of October 13, 2004, President Ilham Aliyev officially established this date as Power Engineers' Day, adding a bright page to the national energy history and reflecting the state’s high appreciation for the dedication and hard work of energy sector professionals.
Azerbaijan is celebrating Power Engineers' Day with growing emphasis on the development of green energy. In recent years, the country has accelerated the implementation of solar and wind power projects, contributing to the transition toward a sustainable energy future. The celebration highlights the role of energy professionals in advancing renewable energy initiatives and supporting Azerbaijan’s clean energy goals.
