Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with a delegation led by Speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Zimbabwe Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the meeting focused on the expanding energy cooperation prospects between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe, including renewable energy, the oil and gas industry, and the exchange of experience in energy legislation.
The parties discussed the development path of Azerbaijan’s energy sector, the country’s contribution to global energy security, and the measures being implemented to advance the energy transition. It was noted that hydrocarbons will remain an important component of the global energy mix for many years to come, while Azerbaijan has identified the development of renewable energy sources as a strategic priority. It was further emphasized that a modern legislative framework for the renewable energy sector, aligned with international best practices, has been established and has already demonstrated its effectiveness in practice. Information was also provided on the wind and solar energy projects currently under implementation, as well as the Green Energy Corridor initiatives.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe noted that they are interested in Azerbaijan’s experience in developing its energy sector. He highlighted the importance of studying Azerbaijan’s expertise in strengthening energy security, improving the investment climate, developing renewable energy projects, as well as energy legislation and financing mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to organize a dedicated seminar to share Azerbaijan’s experience with the Zimbabwean side on its oil and gas contractual model, the legislative framework governing renewable energy, and investment mechanisms in the energy sector.
