Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov delivered a speech at the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held in Moscow.
In his address, the Minister emphasized that the development of the digital economy and growing demand for uninterrupted electricity supply are reinforcing the role of natural gas in ensuring the reliability and flexibility of energy systems.
Azerbaijan has been exporting gas for nearly two decades. In the almost six years since entering the European market, we have expanded our supply footprint to Central Europe and the Middle East. Supplying gas to 16 countries, Azerbaijan ranks among the world’s leading pipeline gas exporters in terms of geographical reach. To date, Azerbaijan has exported 131 bcm of gas to Türkiye, more than 66 billion to Europe, over 37 billion to Georgia and 1.7 billion to Syria.
The Minister stated that Azerbaijan pursues a policy aimed at balancing energy security with environmental responsibility. As President Ilham Aliyev has emphasised, commitment to the #greentransition must be complemented by a pragmatic approach to energy realities. It was noted that by developing natural gas and renewable energy sources in parallel, Azerbaijan is strengthening domestic supply and freeing up additional resources for export.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated that Azerbaijan is a stable and reliable partner, noting that an active dialogue is being maintained with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on expanding cooperation in various areas, including energy.
