Production will begin at the wind power plants (WPPs) in Azerbaijan's Gobustan and Khyzy districts in July, ACWA Power President for Central Asia Abid Malik said at a panel discussion on "Global Cooperation for a Resilient and Sustainable Energy Future" held within the framework of the 30th edition of the Baku Energy Forum and the 13th Caspian International Energy and Green Energy Exhibition on Tuesday.
Report quotes Malik as saying ACWA Power is implementing a 240-megawatt wind power project in Gobustan and Khyzy: "We will start generating electricity in several batches at the wind power plants in July this year. The wind turbines are currently operating. By the end of this year, we will reach the full installed capacity of 240 megawatts at the plant."
Malik stressed that the company will sign an agreement with the Azerbaijani government on the country's first desalinated water project: "This will be a new stage in the history of Azerbaijan. This project will be commissioned in 2-2.5 years. So, we are currently working very closely with the Azerbaijani Energy and Economy Ministries to develop projects."
He also noted that the company is currently engaged in projects in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye: "Our portfolio in Uzbekistan is about $15 billion. We are the largest energy producer and renewable energy producer in Uzbekistan. We have energy projects in Türkiye and we are working closely to develop more renewable energy projects in Türkiye."
