Türkiye is currently the top destination for Azerbaijan's electricity exports, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov told Anadolu Agency.
According to Soltanov, the transmission of electricity is carried out through the territory of Georgia, and in the future, export will also be established through Nakhchivan.
“Türkiye is currently the top destination for our electricity exports,” Soltanov said, adding that 1 gigawatt of power from Nakhchivan could be exported directly to Türkiye.
He recalled the construction of a 330 kW substation in Jabrayil district, which will become a key link in uniting the main territory of the country with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
"This line will be connected to Nakhchivan via the Zangazur or Araz corridor, or both of these routes. Thus, the energy security of the autonomous republic will be ensured, and electricity will be transmitted to Türkiye via Nakhchivan," the deputy minister noted.
Soltanov added that by 2030, the share of renewable energy in Azerbaijan will reach 35.5%, and Türkiye will continue to play a key role not only as the main buyer but also as a transit country for electricity supplies to Europe.
