Inyanga Marine Energy Group has today announced six more winners of contracts to build its HydroWing tidal energy array off Anglesey, Wales.
The 20MW HydroWing tidal energy array will be deployed at Morlais, one of the largest consented tidal energy projects in Europe. The demonstration pilot will deploy in the first quarter of 2026.
Hutchinson Engineering has already been announced as the company which will fabricate the foundation and rear nacelle.
Today, Inyanga announced six further contract winners – PPI Engineering, RMSpumptools, Involution Technologies, Iconsys, Eire Composites, and Prysmian.
PPI Engineering will design and manufacture the generator and generator housing. The bespoke generator has been optimised to ensure efficient power generation.
RMSpumptools will develop a bespoke 11kV Wet-Mate Connector System to provide a robust and reliable connection.
Involution Technologies won the contract for the design and manufacture of the main shaft unit and gearbox, while Iconsys will deliver systems integration for power management.
Eire Composites secured the contract for the manufacture of carbon fibre blades, while Prysmian will be responsible for the manufacture of export cables.
Inyanga Marine Energy Group chief executive Richard Parkinson said: “Each of our contracts were awarded following a rigorous tender process.
“The winning contractors are all best in class and have proven themselves as capable of delivering advanced technology at the cutting edge.
“The majority are based in the UK. Our patented HydroWing technology is set to demonstrate the viability of tidal energy and establish Wales and the UK as a global leader in renewable energy.”
Morlais is the only tidal energy demonstration zone of its kind in the world. It offers a unique “plug and play” model for developers of tidal energy devices, helping reduce costs as they scale up operations.
The Anglesey site, run by social enterprise Menter Mon Morlais, has the potential to generate 240MW of clean electricity.
The Welsh government has taken an £8m million equity stake in the project and has also recently announced a £2m equity investment in Inyanga Marine Energy Group.
Menter Mon Morlais chief executive Andy Billcliff said: “It is great to see everything coming together to deliver the HydroWing demonstration project in early 2026, prior to full-scale deployment in 2028. We are witnessing innovation in action.”
