The Republic of Moldova has reached a new record in renewable energy production. The Energy Ministry's press service told INFOTAG that in April, 36% of the country's total electricity consumption was covered by locally produced renewable sources.
“This is an absolute record and a significant increase compared to March, when the share of local green energy was about 23%.” In April, the total installed capacity of power plants based on renewable energy sources crossed the threshold of 665 MW, and the capacity of power plants based on renewable energy sources has increased 8 times in the last four years,” the statement said.
The ministry stressed that April is a climatically favorable month for renewable energy production - moderate temperatures contribute to higher efficiency of photovoltaic installations compared to summer months.
“The average annual coverage of renewable energy consumption in 2025 is estimated at more than 20%, as winter months are characterized by less favorable weather conditions. Last year, the share of electricity from renewable sources reached 16.7 % of total energy consumption, while in 2023 it was 9.2 % and in 2020 only 3.1 %,” the state agency said.
Moldova should increase the share of renewable energy sources in the national energy mix to 30% by 2030, in line with the targets set by the European energy policy.
