During the Astana International Forum, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held a productive meeting with Sana Bojinovska, Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on the development of renewable energy sources (RES).

Minister Akkenzhenov highlighted Kazakhstan’s dynamic growth in the green energy sector and extended an invitation to Macedonian partners to participate in ongoing and upcoming projects.

“Kazakhstan is actively advancing renewable energy through transparent auction mechanisms, planning to offer projects with a total capacity of 4.6 GW by 2027. We are ready to share our experience in creating attractive conditions for investors, managing oil resources, and digitizing the energy industry. We encourage Macedonian companies to explore opportunities for involvement in our energy projects, including RES auctions,” said the Kazakh Minister.

The Kazakh delegation provided detailed information on state support for renewable energy initiatives, including guaranteed 20-year power purchase agreements and the successful auction system introduced in 2018, which fosters competition and attracts cutting-edge technologies.

Impressed by Kazakhstan’s achievements and internationally recognized auction framework, Minister Bojinovska expressed strong interest in studying Kazakhstan’s legislative measures, auction procedures, and state support mechanisms for investors. The parties discussed organizing a Macedonian delegation visit to Kazakhstan to learn firsthand about best practices in renewable energy development.

Both sides also emphasized the potential for exchanging expertise in energy resource management and the adoption of digital technologies within the sector. Discussions included prospects for joint pilot projects aimed at introducing innovative solutions and enhancing the efficiency of energy systems.

Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to building sustainable energy partnerships with Balkan countries and expanding bilateral cooperation formats.

The crucial role of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was underscored as a key platform for advancing joint initiatives and deepening ties.

The presence of Satybaldy Bursakov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to North Macedonia, at the talks further demonstrated Kazakhstan’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations.
