Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) is all about driving regional development while protecting the environment. When it comes to green energy, AIC is charging ahead with passion! So far, the company has invested AZN 74 million into “green” projects – a clear sign that it’s taking real action for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
One standout project is happening in Lachin, where AIC is partnering with Turkiye’s Demirören Holding to rebuild five small hydroelectric power stations. These stations will supply the region with renewable energy and reduce dependence on traditional sources. It’s a win for both nature and local communities!
Another major initiative is underway in the Jabrayil district – construction of the massive 240 MW “Sunrise” (“Shafag”) solar power plant. Developed in collaboration with SOCAR Green and bp, this is set to become the largest green energy project in the liberated territories. The energy of the future is being born right here!
But these projects are doing more than just generating electricity – they’re breathing new life into the regions, creating jobs, boosting the local economy, and giving people hope.
And that’s not all! AIC is actively supporting eco-friendly innovation across other regions too. In Sumgayit city, a brand-new plant is being built in partnership with Italy’s Technip Energies. This facility will turn plastic waste into valuable pyrolysis oil using cutting-edge thermochemical technology – a true ecological revolution in action!
At the same time, AIC is working with the UAE’s Masdar on a clean energy project that transforms household waste into power. Even more exciting, AIC has teamed up with Chinese giant BYD and Electrify Azerbaijan to build a factory in Sumgait that will produce electric buses. It’s a major step toward clean transport and local industrial growth.
And the highlight? In 2024, AIC made a strong showing at the COP29 climate conference by signing key environmental agreements with international partners. These include a recycling initiative for plastic and glass with Turkiye’s “Dias Bilişim ve Teknoloji Hizmetleri A.Ş.”, carbon capture technology development with the UK’s Carbonbit Technologies, and battery production with the UAE’s Volts.
All of this sends a clear message: AIC is building a greener tomorrow – starting today, with “green” ideas, ambitious projects, and global partnerships.
