The first solar panel has been installed as part of Azerbaijan’s inaugural renewable energy auction project — the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant.
The Ministry of Energy’s Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency informed Renewables.az about the milestone.
Construction of the project, implemented in cooperation with China’s Universal International Holdings Limited, began in May this year and is being carried out mainly by local companies. The plant, expected to be commissioned in 2027, is projected to generate around 260 million kWh of electricity annually. This will not only save approximately 57 million cubic meters of natural gas each year but will also reduce carbon emissions by 124,000 tonnes.
It should be noted that Universal International Holdings Limited was selected as the winner of the auction held by the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan last year during COP29, with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
