In the second half of May 2025, Baku will host a meeting between representatives of Azerbaijan and Germany to discuss cooperation in the transition to renewable energy sources (RES).

The German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan) stated that the upcoming talks will build on previous meetings between Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and representatives of leading German energy companies.

The Chamber emphasized that the dialogue will focus on technological collaboration, support for implementing national strategies, launching joint projects in the field of renewable energy, and adapting sustainable energy technologies at the local level.

"Topics related to the energy transition continue to hold a key place in the Azerbaijani-German dialogue. The talks are expected to explore cooperation opportunities in green and sustainable energy, showcase successful projects, and promote the exchange of experiences and best practices between stakeholders from both countries," AHK Azerbaijan noted.

Earlier, the Chamber's Executive Director Nargiz Vik stated that Germany could make a significant contribution to establishing an innovation hub for renewable energy in Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijan's energy plans, by 2027 the country aims to build eight industrial-scale solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of approximately 2 GW. The total investment in these projects is expected to reach $2.8 billion, funded through both foreign and local sources.

The implementation of these projects will allow Azerbaijan to produce 5.3 billion kWh of green energy annually, increase the share of renewables in the energy system to 32.6%, save up to 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.5 million tons.

By 2030, Azerbaijan plans to increase its installed renewable energy capacity to 7 GW, of which 5 GW are intended for export.
