"As China Datang Corporation, we plan to implement an offshore wind power project in the Caspian Sea by 2030," Renewables.az reports that Wang Hao, Deputy General Manager of China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., made the remarks while sharing his views on the “Green Energy Corridor: From Feasibility Study to Implementation” Forum, held in Baku on October 22.
According to him, the green electricity generated by the offshore wind power plant will be transmitted directly to Europe through the Green Energy Corridor.
"I believe this will be one of the world's largest energy infrastructure projects. We are committed to mobilizing our efforts to ensure the successful implementation of this important project," he said.
On April 22, 2025, during President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev's state visit to the People's Republic of China, a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of a 2 GW offshore wind energy project in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, SOCAR Green LLC, China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., and PowerChina Resources Limited. The memorandum provides for cooperation in assessing investment opportunities and establishing appropriate technical and legal support mechanisms.
Wang Hao noted that there are significant opportunities for cooperation between China and Azerbaijan in this area.
"As part of cooperation between China and Azerbaijan, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the Trans-Caspian–Black Sea Green Energy Corridor project was signed last June with Datang, one of China's largest electricity producers."
The Datang representative also highlighted the highly favorable and distinctive environment created for foreign investment in Azerbaijan in recent years.
"That is why we have recently attracted around 25 Chinese enterprises to invest in Azerbaijan," he said.
On June 26, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the development of the Green Energy Corridor was signed between the State Agency on Renewable Energy Sources and China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. The memorandum envisages cooperation to ensure the secure integration of electricity generation capacity based on Azerbaijan's renewable energy resources into the power grid, as well as the reliable and stable transmission of this electricity.
Under the memorandum, cooperation with China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. will cover the application of the company's technical capabilities and system studies for power grid development, as well as technical and financial support for engaging Chinese companies with extensive experience in HVDC project design, engineering and construction management.
Wang Hao also announced that the company is cooperating with Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Economy on the establishment of an industrial park.
"This industrial park is specifically intended to meet the needs of the future Green Energy Corridor project. Our goal is to attract Chinese technologies and enterprises to Azerbaijan and establish local manufacturing capabilities. I believe this industrial park will provide significant support for the implementation of the project," he said.
It should be noted that in September 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a Green Energy Industrial Park in Azerbaijan was signed between the Economic Zones Development Agency under the Ministry of Economy and China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.
